Federico Fellini collabora al soggetto e alla sceneggiatura.

Un attore girovago viene scambiato per un uomo scomparso anni addietro e suo malgrado è costretto a rimanere presso la presunta famiglia che lo ha "riconosciuto". Lì conosce una fanciulla strapazzata da una anziana e dispotica parente, allora l'attore dapprima remissivo prende in mano le redini della famiglia e ne ristabilisce ordini e diritti. Messo tutto a posto riprende la sua vita da girovago.
