Una giovane donna, che vive con uno squallido individuo, incontra un titolato professore e finisce per illudersi di esserne la figlia. La realtà, però, è ben diversa e per la poveretta non resta che continuare ad alimentare un sogno impossibile recitando, in una compagnia di guitti, il ruolo della "principessa".
